New year, new decade, new brain
2020 is upon us and the analogy for us to have a clear vision of our future couldn’t be any stronger. We are facing a brain health crisis in our world, that with proper care and attention can be avoided. We have an opportunity to examine our daily habits and develop new choices that will lead to longterm cognitive health. Right now, worldwide, 50 million people are living with dementia. Unfortunately, that number is increasing by 10 million new people each year! Almost everyone knows someone that has been affected by cognitive issues, whether cognitive decline brought about with age, or depression and anxiety, which are at an all time high. It is estimated that one in every five youth in the US has a diagnosable mental health condition.
The solution for longterm cognitive health is simple, but not easy. It does not lie in a single pill, nor supplement, nor diet. Immediate and long term brain health is dependent upon the habits we develop everyday. All of us have the opportunity to control our cognitive destiny by making small additions to our routine that will lead to great benefits over the long run. Joe and I have made additions to our lifestyle based on our “Seven Pillars of Brain Health” that we will be sharing and encouraging others to adopt in 2020.
The Seven Pillars of Brain Health:
- Essential nutrients
- Night time sleep/rest
- Optimizing our diets
We at Memento will be expanding on each of the Seven Pillars throughout the year. Look for continued updates as we dive deeper into the daily habits that will lead to long term cognitive health. We wish everyone best of health in the new year.
